As a fan of the original Generation One (G1) series and toys, most follow-ups (outside of the darker Beast Wars series) left much to be desired. While I was excited to see the Transformers make the big screen, I'm not a fan of Michael Bay's take on the characters. Transformers Animated was the first series in a long time to capture some of the classic G1-feel (not too mention characters) without coming across as another rehash. The series offered a fresh take on a 25-year-old storyline with some of the best artwork to come out of Cartoon Network. It was ideal for an old G1 fan like me and my 4-year-old son, who recently inherited all of Daddy's old robots, to watch together. The series lasted three seasons and while a fourth was planned, Hasbro and Discovery Networks joined forces to launch a new channel killing any future for Transformers Animated (grab the DVDs if you can find them, as they are already out-of-print). The series has been re-dubbed into Japanese and will finally air in Takara's home country next month. Sebastian Evans II provided a stellar action-infused score for the series which he recently posted on his website. For fans of the series, as well as fans of fantasy, sci-fi, and action film scores, this is a must grab. More than meets the ears ;)
